A series of articles featuring vintage photographs that I have come across in family archives and photograph albums. The photographs are at least half a century old with some from the early years of the 20th century or even late 1800s. They represent a view of the social history that the present generation owes its existence to. Most of the people depicted would have viewed the present world as an alien place.
