A series of articles about Blackpool's Central Pier. Opened in 1868, it was the second of Blackpool's piers to be built and was originally known as the South Pier. The name was changed when the Victoria Pier was built further south along the seafront some 30 years later. After a few years the owners of the Central Pier came to the conclusion it was silly to have a South Pier when there was one further south and so they became the Central Pier and the Victoria Pier became the South Pier.
