Tuesday 14 June 2005. Another couple of days in the company of Alan Cameron as we toured the highs of universities and colleges, training management teams in Records Management in both the run upto and the post implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, which came into force for educational establishments in 2005.
This particular day we were training a group at this site - Trent Park. During WWII captured Luftwaffe airmen were held here and their rooms bugged by the so-called Secret Listeners so that any intelligence could be gained of German plans or intentions.
The following day we were giving the same presentation to a group of Further Education colleges in the Eastern Region and were staying overnight in a small hotel on the outskirts of Cambridge.
This was a family run business and made a change from all of the Premier Inns that got used a lot. I've nothing at all against Premier Inns by the way - I still use them these days when travelling about in this country. But they are all a bit identical. In those days when I might spend three or so nights a week in different hotels I would awake some mornings, look at the familar desk arrangement and the same picture on the wall and I'd think: "a Premier Inn.... but which and where...?"
The centre of Cambridge was not far away and we nipped into the city for a meal and to make sure we could find the venue for the following morning.
Wednesday 15 June 2005. Ready and raring to go before the delegates for the day showed up.
